Welcome to Mai Aru, the home
of beautiful clothing, created with love and care.
I’m Mai Aru, the creative force behind the clothes you are viewing on
this site.
As a designer since 1982 and located in Toronto, Canada, I’m inspired
by both the heart of city life and the natural colours and textures of
nature.
My designing begins with the fabric. I look for fabrics that pull me toward
them, seeing the garment in my mind’s eye. In my studio, I play with the
fabric in front of the mirror until I envision a design that pleases me.
Made with care and the finest materials, every piece revels in texture,
colour, and whimsy.
I view clothing as architecture for the body. “Form follows function”;
the elements of proportion, strength and flow are integral to every garment
I design. Defining the body with a beautiful silhouette becomes art.
Because I operate on a small scale I can take a custom approach to production
and accommodate a range of body types and sizes. Once a design is created,
I really enjoy the process of adapting it to an array of texture and colour
as I find new fabrics to work with. Always playful, serendipity plays
its part in the evolution and fresh approach to each design.
My styles are individual and timeless. You’ll enjoy the classic cut and
feel of all my clothing, designed with comfort and durability in mind.
Great for layering and combining fabrics, you can build a wardrobe of
complementary colours and styles or enjoy a single elegant selection.
Every client is offered a full personalized service, with input on colour
selection and figure flattering styles.

Mai Aru's studio and showroom
is located in the heart of the fashion district at 20 Maud Street suite
101 near Queen and Spadina. From the main doors at 20 Maud Street go through
the parking lot to the south, #101 is in the NW corner of the parking
